Many posts and blogs have mentioned Virgil Griffith and the charges leveled against him by the United States. But, did you know the majority of these posts ignore his dual citizenship, his repeated attempts to help N. Korea bypass worldwide financial sanctions with the use of Cryptocurrency exchanges . And, there is more.
The U.S. government accused Griffith of providing “highly technical information to North Korea,” and information that could help North Korea “launder money and evade sanctions.”
A journalist that spent time in N. Korea with Griffith and also attended the trial has said “As he admitted in court today, Virgil Griffith agreed to help one of our nation’s most dangerous foreign adversaries, North Korea. Griffith worked with others to provide cryptocurrency services to North Korea and assist North Korea in evading sanctions, and traveled to North Korea to do so," U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said in a statement.
Griffith will be sentenced in January. A plea bargain supposedly called for 6.5 years in prison.
I ask all the twitterverse that are up in arms about this, do you want to enable a mad-man with nuclear missiles that would reach you and your family? If the answer is no, then why are you defending Virgil Griffith. Acting like he is the victim? Griffith admitted in court that he was guilty.
"Griffith was born in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in nearby Tuscaloosa. He graduated from the Alabama School of Math and Science in 2002, and then attended the University of Alabama, studying cognitive science. He transferred to Indiana University in 2004, but returned to graduate cum laude from Alabama in August 2007. In 2008, he was a visiting researcher at the Santa Fe Institute. In 2014 Griffith received his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology under Christof Koch in computation and neural systems. He has been a research scientist at the Ethereum Foundation since 2016. At the time of his arrest in 2019, Griffith was a resident of Singapore and was allegedly investigating the possibility of renouncing his US citizenship."
Another instance of knowledge vs wisdom. I lost family members in the Korean War. Over 70 years have passed , and my family still mourns the death of Fathers, and Uncles, and Brothers. The pain stings and is only subdued by the knowledge of personal sacrifice to keep our freedoms. Virgil Griffith has lots of knowledge, but he really is f!>&king Stupid.
N. Korea wanted to force communism on the rest of their country. With the aid of China, more than 5 million people died. (10 % were civilian). We never signed a treaty, only a cease fire. My question, is how can a person with so much knowledge, and a superior intellect, ignore the genocide and continued murder, torture, and global threats from N. Korea.
How can you support your attempt to aid this murderous regime? Are you so money hungry that you would turn your back on the country that gave you the opportunity to be great? Are you really that stupid?
In Memory of Uncle Joseph. KIA 1951 while defending your right to be an asshole.
